CHAPTER 1

 INTRODUCTION

 

  • BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

The need for having home protection has always been of great importance. But in recent times, considering a dramatic rise in petty crimes like robbery and theft, the need has been more strongly felt to have a fool proof protection of the belongings and the family members. Home security has come a long way in the last few decades. Initially security was in the hands of guards who manually provided surveillance during the night in the earlier days, but it was not fool proof as it was only normal for a security man to have momentary lapses in concentration. The guard was also susceptible to sleep at times. It was then that home alarm systems based upon electronic circuits were developed which proved to be highly reliable and were appreciated by the people as they were relieved from constant monitoring of their homes. A shadow alarm, as defined by Trimmer,  H. William (1981) is a system designed to detect intrusion & unauthorized entry & into a building or area by generating or giving of an alarm whenever a shadow falls on it. ) Security alarms are used in residential, commercial, industrial, and military properties for protection against burglary, theft, or property damage, as well as personal protection against intruders. )Shadow alarms are widely used for security purposes. )Shadow sensors are widely used to detect the movement of a person in a confined area. any circuits published earlier have a serious drawback that only one light dependent resistor  is used for shadow detection.  Shadow sensors are widely used to detect the movement of a person in a confined area.   • STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

 

The challenges confronted with the manual security system which limited the ability of security personnel to effectively detect intrusion and prevent theft and burglary has led to loss of valuable properties. The problem confronting the study is the design and construction of an infrared base shadow detector  with alarm

 

  • OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY

 

The objective of the study is the  design and construction of an infrared base shadow detector  with alarm.

The need for an effective and reliable intrusion detection with an alarm system

have become vital necessity because of the frequent and rampant cases of burglary. Attack on homes offices, factories, banks etc. is on the increase. With the advancement in technology, motion can be detected by measuring change in speed or vector of an object in the field of view. This can be achieved either by mechanical devices that physically interact with the field or by electronic device that quantifies and measures changes in the given environment. The motion

detector  is not only used as intruder alarm but also used in many applications like home automation system, energy efficiency system, etc

 

 

 

 

  • SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

The study shall proffer a prototype design of design and construction of an infrared base  shadow  detector  with alarm which can be further developed in mass by policy makers.

The study  focuses on the design and construction of an infrared base shadow detector  with alarm

The study was confronted by logistics and geographical constraint.

A shadow alarm  is a system designed to detect intrusion & unauthorized entry & into a building or area by generating or giving of an alarm whenever a shadow falls on it.
